A woman was left stunned after she went out for dinner with friends and discovered she had been tasked with shaking her drink.
The woman, who goes by @blondeswhoeat on social media, went out to dinner in Dallas, Texas, and saw a “prep” charge on her bill.
“Normally I don’t look at bills, I’m just like ‘yeah, that sounds good, here’s my card’ – I know it sounds ignorant, but whatever,” she said.
“We got the bill and in my head I knew we only got $150 worth of food, which, the food was great. So how did we get to $530?”
She shared her receipt because she needed some sort of excuse or to know if it was normal since she had never heard of it before.
She and her friend had bought four skinny and spicy margaritas, which were $14 plus $3 preparation. When she asked what the preparation was, the server told her it was “daisy shake.”
In reality, it made the drinks $17 and the woman said that’s the price it should be on the menu.
Another drink, which was priced at $32, had a preparation price of $13.
“Thirteen dollars to shake the margarita,” she asked, before revealing that another woman received three cocktails that had a $15 preparation fee.
The brew fee also varied with the amount of alcohol added to the drink – for example, ordering a double shot.
On top of that, there were $80 in additional preparation fees for all the drinks.
“All this to say, what the F? This place charges to shake your margarita. And he was like they charge the brew with the tequila of your choice,” the woman said.
Social media users were equally shocked by the woman’s experience.
“The barman here for life and the owner of the bar – this is crazy. Unacceptable they weren’t in charge. The hidden drinks charges are crazy,” said one.
One added: “I would 100 per cent dispute those charges. These fees sound illegal unless they are in writing on the menu.”
“The charge preparation is crazy, but tell me why it fluctuates based on the quality of the tequila? Do they shake it differently?? What is a $3 shake vs. a $20 shake? At least do it on the side of the table,” said another.
